I am writing to introduce myself. I have recently registered to run for North Sydney Council in the St Leonards ward in the upcoming September local government election.
First and foremost a little about me. I’m a family man and passionate local resident. My children were born in St Leonards and go to school in the area. I’ve lived most of my adult life here across North Sydney, Crows Nest, Cremorne Point and now Cremorne and my office is in Neutral Bay. I love the area.
I’ve been lucky to have had a wonderful and successfully business career, twice being recognised by winning the Australian Entrepreneur of the Year Award.
In 2007, I founded and was the CEO of Vocus Group (ASX:VOC) which I grew from a few staff in Miller Street North Sydney to the 4th largest telecommunication company and a multi-billion dollar ASX listed company with well over a thousand staff. I am proud to have built that business in North Sydney CBD.
Today, I work with a few businesses including as the Chairperson of Airtasker (ASX:ART) where we have created over $1.1 billion in flexible work opportunities for Australians, I am also on the board of Kogan.com (ASX:KGN) which today is a household name as well as selling close to $1 billion in products per year to over 3 million Australians.
I am also passionate about community and charity. For 2 years, I was an Ambassador for the Children’s Cancer Institute’s CEO Dare to Cureprogram and proudly their largest fund raiser. I believe strongly in diversity and again for 2 years was the Ambassador for the Women on Boards program.
Having gained an enormous amount of experience in business across many industries, I’ve developed strong skills relevant to council including budgeting, finance, efficiencies, automation, and technology. I also have a strong understanding of governance, legal, audit and and communications.
What I am not, is a politician. I’m running for council because I see so many opportunities to improve the area and help to create a strong a positive culture in council. I believe technology can assist in getting wider feedback on issues and make council easier to interact with.
My goal, if elected, is to reduce the politics-first culture, work co-operatively to make great community driven decisions and operate the business of council as efficiently while providing the best services.
I firmly believe we can make North Sydney one of the best run and highly regarded councils in Australia. I promise that I will work hard to make North Sydney a standout council in Australia.
Lastly, I’m happy to say that my entire campaign will be carbon neutral. I’ll be recording the impact of all aspects of the campaign and offsetting that impact with certified climate action projects to reduce the carbon impact to zero.
